November 4, 2008
Dear Friends,
It is my distinct pleasure to support the work of Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance and Fannie Mae
with the 2008 Help the Homeless WalkAThon, which will be held Saturday, November 22, 10:00
a.m. (8:30 a.m. registration) at City Hall Plaza. Funds raised will go towards providing homeless
individuals with permanent, supportive housing such as CityWalk@Akard, located in Downtown
Dallas.
Assisting the homeless is one of the most effective means we have to reduce poverty and crime
in our city, and it is the foundation for opportunity and prosperity for our citizens in the future.
Since the May 2008 opening of the new homeless assistance center, The Bridge, crime is down
significantly in the central business district. In addition, helping those in need allows them to
become more active and meaningful members of our great city.
I hope you agree with me that supporting the 2008 Help the Homeless WalkAThon not only
benefits those in need, but also benefits our beautiful, vibrant city. Raising awareness of the
devastating condition of our homeless neighbors and helping to prevent and end homelessness
is a very important challenge. It is a mission that merits the support of all us, whether from the
public or private sector, as it continues to empower our community.
Please visit www.helpthehomelessdallas.org and join me on Saturday, November 22 at the 2nd
Annual Help the Homeless WalkAThon. And, if you would like to help spread the word by
distributing brochures or hanging a poster, please contact Kathy Beazley at
kbeazley@krbcommunications.com or 214/353-9966.
Everyone deserves the safety, security and pride of having a place to call home.
Sincerely,

Tom Leppert
Mayor
