On May 28, 2009 Downtown Dallas, a membership organization of business owners who are invested in the revitalization of downtown, hosted a breakfast presentation event to honor the local homeless service providers of the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance.
The celebration honored the one year anniversary opening of The Bridge, Dallas' new homeless assistance center. The Bridge is a multi-service campus that offers emergency and transitional shelter, as well as meals, medical, mental health, housing, job seeker services, and services from 16 co-located agencies. In the first year of operation the Bridge has enabled more than 800 individuals to gain full-time employment and has placed 437 individuals in appropriate housing. 24 public, private and nonprofit organizations were honored by Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance for their services in accomplishing the goals over the last year. Special guest speakers at the event included City of Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert, Council Member Pauline Medrano, John Crawford, DownTown Dallas President and CEO, and Mike Rawlings, Dallas' Homeless Czar.
